On-Page SEO Checklist: 12 Things to Fix

This on-page SEO checklist helps you improve any page in under an hour. Work through it page by page.

Content and keywords

  1. Choose one main keyword per page.
  2. Put it in the title, the H1 and the first paragraph, naturally.
  3. Answer the searcher's question clearly and early.
  4. Add related terms and questions people ask.

Tags and structure

  1. Write a unique title under about 60 characters.
  2. Write a meta description that invites the click.
  3. Use one H1 and logical H2 and H3 headings.
  4. Keep the URL short and readable.
  1. Add descriptive alt text to images.
  2. Compress images so pages load quickly.
  3. Link to related pages on your site with clear anchor text.
  4. Link out to helpful sources where it adds value.

Quality check

Read the page as a visitor. Is it useful, easy to scan and trustworthy? Search engines reward pages that satisfy the reader, not pages stuffed with keywords.

Track the result

Check impressions and clicks in Google Search Console after a few weeks. Update pages that rank on page two with extra detail.
