Learning how to create a digital marketing plan is the fastest way to stop wasting time and budget. A plan turns scattered posts and ads into a system you can improve.

The six parts of a plan

  1. Goal: one measurable target, such as 30 qualified enquiries a month.
  2. Audience: who you are speaking to and what they need.
  3. Channels: where you will reach them.
  4. Content: the topics and formats you will publish.
  5. Budget: time and money per channel.
  6. Reporting: the numbers you will review and when.

Make the goal measurable

"Get more traffic" is a wish. "Get 500 visits from search in three months" is a goal you can check.

Build a content calendar

List topics for the next four weeks, assign a channel and an owner to each, and set publish dates. Keep it in a spreadsheet; a free content calendar template is available.

Review monthly

At the end of each month ask three questions: what worked, what did not, and what will we change? Move budget to what works.

Keep it short

A one-page plan that gets used beats a 40-page plan that does not. If you want help turning goals into a working plan, contact me.

Review it monthly and rewrite goals each quarter or when your business changes.
